One recent significant project for Portway Scaffolding was to provide the scaffolding to support the conservation of the National Trust’s Dyffryn House to allow for repairs to the building’s exterior stonework.

Built from soft Bath stone over 125 years ago, in a relatively wet environment, the Victorian Grade II* listed Dyffryn House showed signs of deterioration and allowed water in.

To make the magnificent building watertight, they are repairing the limestone façade, replacing the lead sections on the roof, and restoring the joinery on the external windows.

A grant of £100,000 has been received from The Wolfson Foundation to part-fund the repairs to Dyffryn House.

Lizzie Smith-Jones, General Manager at Dyffryn House:

“This is an exciting time for Dyffryn House as we carry out these repairs to give this special place a new lease of life. Over the next year, the conservation project will see all four elevations of the house restored, protecting and championing a significant part of Welsh heritage”.

“We’d like to reassure visitors that Dyffryn Gardens will remain open throughout the conservation project and hope that everyone will join us in celebrating that the much-needed works to the house exteriors are now taking place”.

The team at Portway carried out the scaffolding erection to the highest standards of safety.
