Portway Scaffold was requested in January to undertake a 3rd party inspection on a scaffold to a listed building in Shropshire. Original drawings were provided which were undertaken in 2017.
The findings were the scaffold had not been maintained and the sole boards had practically weathered away. The issue was this scaffold was a raking shore holding up the derelict building.
The local council took control of the building under CDM and the listed buildings’ regulations and got a court order for an urgent works notice.
Working directly with structural and civil engineers over a three-week period Portway rectified the scaffold to make the scaffold compliant and fit for purpose.
The first stage was to stop the scaffold from sinking further putting immense stress on the scaffold ties against the building, 94 new standards were placed for this support, including a full ladder beam gantry to secure the Kentledge buttress.
The scaffold is now accessible so the building can safely be properly structurally assessed.
We hope the building can be saved but that’s for the engineers to decide.
